Boudhanath Stupa

From above, Bodnath Stupa look like a huge figure, or diagram of the Buddhist cosmos. And as in all Tibetan mandalas, four of the Dhyani Buddhas sign the peak points, with the fifth, Vairocana, enshrined in the center (in the white hemisphere of the stupa). The 5 Buddhas conjointly personify the five parts (earth, water, fire, air and ether), which square measure depicted in the stupa's design.

There are different symbolic numbers here as well: the 9 levels of Boudhanath Stupa represent the legendary Mt. Meru, center of the cosmos; and the 13 rings from the bottom to the head symbolize the trail to enlightenment, or "Bodhi" — hence the stupa's name.

At the bottom, the stupa is surrounded by associate irregular 16-sided wall, with frescoes in the niches. In addition to the Five Dhyani Buddhas, Boudhanath Stupa is closely associated with the Bodhisattva Bodhisattva (Padmapani), whose 108 forms are portrayed in sculptures around the base. The mantra of Bodhisattva - Om Mani Padme Hum - is graven on the prayer wheels beside the pictures of Avalokiteshvara round the base of the stupa.

The base of the stupa consists of three massive platforms, decreasing in size. These platforms symbol Earth, and here you can look out at the mountains whereas being attentive to the song of the holy doing kora, walking around the stupa praying.

Next come 2 circular plinths supporting the hemisphere of the stupa, indicate water. As at  Bodnath ,Swayabunath, is topped with a sq. tower bearing the ubiquitous Buddha eyes on all four sides.

Instead of a nose could be a question-mark-type symbol that's really the Nepali character for the quantity one, symbolizing unity and the a technique to succeed in enlightenment—through the Buddha's teachings. Above this is the pineal eye, symbolizing the knowledge of the Buddha.

The square tower is flat-top by a pyramid with thirteen steps, define the step to enlightenment. The triangular shape is the abstract kind for the part of fireplace. At the top of the tower could be a gilded cover, the embodiment of air, with above it a gilded steeple, symbolic of ether and the Buddha Vairocana. devotion flags joined to the stupa flutter in the wind, carrying mantras and prayers heavenward.

The main entranceto the upper  point of Bodnath Stupa is on the side. Here Amoghasiddhi, progenitor of the destiny Buddha, presides.  Under Amoghasiddhi is the Buddha Maitreya, the future Buddha.

Surrounding Boudhanath Stupa square measure streets and slim alleys lined with colourful homes, Tibetan Buddhist monasteries, and street vendors.
